Our Story
The Beginning
My journey began in the summer of 2020, during the global uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. As an auditor and IT consultant from Cologne, Germany, I was trying to relocate my workplace to a caravan. I recognized the emerging challenge: the need for functional and versatile ways to use space wisely. I realized this challenge is a similar to living under lock-down conditions in a flat to small for all family members or roommates for 24 hrs trying to work, have free time, work out or play. This challenge became the cornerstone for what would later become known as RotaRoom® - a revolutionary piece of furniture that uses space efficiently and is versatile.
The development journey:
From August 2020, I began an intensive research and development journey with my team. The first phase was dominated by solving space issues by analyzing the impact of the pandemic on housing, and trying to fit a flat into a small van. It helped me to identify the essential things in life that should be supported by furniture. I was then exploring how these could be integrated into a single, multi-functional piece of furniture. By November 2020, we had developed, tested and refined the first prototype blueprint.
The RotaRoom® was conceived as a piece of furniture that can seamlessly transform from a bed to a workstation, kitchen or dining area, all in one compact, rotating structure. Over the following two years, every aspect of the RotaRoom® was carefully designed, tested and optimized. This included the integration of advanced features such as a safe and quiet swivel mechanism, water supply and electricity through a central axis, and the creation of durable, lightweight materials suitable for the furniture's multifunctional design.
Our first patent:
In December 2020 I was able to successfully register the first patent for the RotaRoom®. This milestone was followed by the construction of our first full-scale prototype at the end of 2022. Since February 2024 RotaRoom® owns registered patents in Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and a registered design patent in China. The prototype demonstrated the RotaRoom®'s ability to transform any small space into a fully functional living area, equipped with a bed and an integrated widescreen monitor, a workstation with a desk and storage space, and a kitchen with a stove, sink and sufficient storage space.
Our Team
To achieve great results, we needed a competent team, consisting of three people: Christian, Antonia and me – Jan. Since 2023, Christian – our master carpenter – has been supporting us in the realization of planned ideas. This has enabled us to successfully integrate five functions into one piece of furniture.
In 2024 Antonia joined our team, to support us in our office work. This enables us to focus on optimizing our furniture.
Last but not least, I want to introduce myself. I am Jan Konnerth, the CEO and founder of ChallengeIT GmbH (2009) and the founder of RoomingVille GmbH. In 2022, I launched RoomingVille to introduce a multifunctional piece of furniture that combines five unique functions, designed to maximize space and utility. As a seasoned professional with numerous IT industry certifications, I bring a wealth of experience and a commitment to quality and innovation. Beyond my professional life, I am a loving father and dedicated kindergarten leader. Trust in my dedication and expertise to make Roomingville a successful and impactful venture.
